What Are Dentures?

Many patients do not realize how versatile and customizable dentures truly are. There are many different types of dentures that can be used to replace multiple teeth, whether those are most or all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Traditional dentures, which most people are familiar with, can be easily removed for cleaning or adjustment, but there are also many ways to secure a denture depending on your restoration priorities. When you speak with our dentist during your consultation, you may find dentures to be the best option for restoring your specific smile’s aesthetic appearance, everyday function and overall health.

Complete Dentures
A complete denture replaces all your teeth in a full dental arch and is therefore the best option for a patient who no longer has any remaining healthy teeth in one or more dental arch. Traditionally, a complete denture would be custom fit to your unique jawbone and oral structures and then further held in place using a strong dental adhesive. These dentures are easy to remove for cleaning each night to ensure they remain in good condition. There are also options, such as fitting the denture with dental implants, that offer added stability and a more permanent restoration.

Partial Dentures
A partial denture is the ideal denture solution to fill out your smile if you are missing multiple teeth but still have healthy natural teeth remaining. Instead of dental adhesives, these partial dentures are secured to your natural teeth with a thin framework of clasps, which keep the oral appliance firmly in place while still being removable. Like complete dentures, a partial denture can also be secured using dental implants.

Implant-Supported Dentures

At our office, Dr. Nick Lupo has been placing and restoring dental implants for years, and he can use this knowledge and experience to offer implant-supported dentures. Also known as implant-retained or fixed dentures, these restorations solve the problem of dentures becoming loose or “floating” around the mouth that can make eating or speaking with dentures more difficult. Typically, a denture can be secured using four to six implants. Depending on your specific oral appliance, our dentist can sometimes even retrofit existing dentures to fit dental implants.

Why Choose Dentures?

If you are missing multiple teeth, our dentist may recommend partial or complete dentures to restore your oral health and smile. This includes improving your ability to speak and eat properly, restoring natural facial volume and in general, improving your smile’s appearance. Whichever type of denture you decide is right for you, you can be confident that our team will custom craft your oral appliance to maximize your security and comfort. We are also happy to refit or adjust your denture if the fit feels off after a few days of use or if it no longer fits as it initially did when you first began using it.

When you are ready to fill and improve your smile, and begin enjoying your favorite foods again, call our office to schedule your restoration consultation with our dentist. We can’t wait to see you smile!
